Hi Everyone,
My name is Gerard and I am a speech pathologist practicing in New York. I currently work with students diagnosed with severe speech and language impairments in a school setting. I also work with patients recovering from strokes.
I am currently persuing my SLP.D.
I am viewing this blogging experience as a way to kind of "talk out" my ideas. Constructive critisism is always welcome.
The topic or focus of my dissertation will most likely center on my current caseload in the school setting. I am currently involved in a trial program that centers on intergrating students with severe speech and language impairments into general education classrooms.
Problem Statement:
Many students who are diagnosed with severe speech and language impairments are failing to generalize learned skills into the classroom environment.
I realize that this problem statement is broad and in no way tries to narrow down components that would make for interesting research. I wrote it this way on purpose. I have not yet narrowed down the specifics of my proposed problem statement. Over the next few days I will be fine tuning the statement to be direct. For instance, the specific speech and language impairments will be identified when my problem statement is revised. Specific speech and language goals that students have difficulty generalizing will be identified.
I look forward to exploring my chosen topic through this blogging expierience.
This is a great topic to explore. Definitely a barrier that is difficult to deal with. I am excited to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteGerard, great job on your blog; very dark and mysterious!! Kind of like your problem statement right now. No, just kidding. I think your problem statement looks great. It is specifying a problem and I think it is a good idea to keep it broad until you have a better idea of what you want to focus on! This is a great place to hash out your thoughts so continue to blog as they come to you!!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how my blog page turned so dark. When I left it last night it was much brighter.
DeleteI am looking forward to this blogging expierience.
Hey Gerard, I LOVE the title of your blog, LOL. Endangered indeed. Your problem statement is something that all school therapists struggle with, generalization to the classroom! So difficult to achieve at times. Lots of variables that are involved. Look forward to following your progress.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we want be endangered forever. Right now I am a graduate student male and from New York also. If you ever have anytime for questions I would really appreciate it. Mine is Mcg779@gmail.com
